“Mock MATNESS” Deep Dive : 157 lbs.

This is where we take a closer look at individual weight classes. Using the most recent coaches poll, we can anticipate potential matchups. This in no way represents an accurate prediction of how the bracket will be seeded for this March. However, it’s part of the fun! Young STUDS, Old STUDS, and the WILDCARD! The 157 lbs. weight class has it ALL.

1st Round: Peyton “Manning” Robb draws a tough opponent from the 24th seed in Johnny Lovett (no relation to Ridge or Lyle), and wins. Not sure why Sonny Santiago is such a low-seed but that would be a heck of a matchup in Round 1. Jacori Teemer takes it. Joey Blaze takes out multiple time All-American Will Lewan because we say so. If you have nothing nice to say….something.

  • Scott beats Brignola

  • Chase Saldate pretty much ends Brayton Lee’s career by sending him to the consi’s

  • Chittum over Trevor Chumbley

  • Meyer Shapiro takes out a “Legend”

2nd Round: A very SOLID (5 vs 12) matchup sees Jared Franek edging Brock Mauller. Both wearing black and gold Franek gets the TD in overtime to win. Daniel Cardenas looks great against a worthy Teague Travis. The young OSU Cowboy has a bright future ahead of him.

  • Teemer ends Ed Scott’s run

  • Michael Blockhus holds serve against Saldate

  • Shapiro wins the battle of young phenom’s

  • Zerban controversially wins against Blaze 🔥

Quarterfinals: Levi Haines shoots and scores. As great of a wrestler Robb is, Haines is just a bit better at all positions, wins 7-1. Daniel Cardenas completes the UPSET with a late 3rd period FALL after winning most of the match!

  • Teemer over Franek

  • Shapiro uses pure talent to dominate Blockhus

Semifinals: After Teemer gets the first takedown, Levi Haines goes on a tear and a major-decision victory over Jacori Teemer 14-4. Meyer Shapiro lives up to the hype and lands himself in a NCAA final in his Freshman campaign.

Finals: In an INSTANT CLASSIC and a rivalry we hope to see for years, Levi Haines barely defeats Meyer Shapiro 7-6. With both wrestlers scoring points off shots and using stellar defense at times, this was a display of what elite wrestling looks like. Haines is a NATIONAL CHAMPION and Penn State’s 1st on the evening, are there more to come???

*THE WILDCARD: MATNESS P4P Top-Ranked “Entertainment Value” Wrestler is not in this field. However, we now know that BRYCE ANDONIAN will be there in March! …and with THAT GUY, anything is possible!
